NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Parents of a sixth grade student are outraged after they say their son was bullied for being black at his Upper East Side school.

Imagine being the only black student in your class and having a white student put yarn around your neck like a noose and saying, "This is what your ancestors went through." According to a report in the NY Post, that's exactly what happend to Tyler Davis, an 11-year-old 6th grader at Robert F. Wagner Middle School on the Upper East Side.Allyson Davis, Tyler's mother, is outraged and she says the school didn't do anything about it. "You never think that when you send your child to school that something like this would happen," Davis told 1010 WINS.

Davis also told 1010 WINS the school never told her about the incident. "The teacher witnessed the incident and according to the vice principal, the teacher did not immediately report it to the office."

Tyler has not been back to school since the incident happened on March 8, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

The Davis' filed a report with the NYPD. 1010 WINS has reached out to the Dept. of Education for comment and they issued the following statement.

"Our schools must be safe and welcoming environments for all students, and they must report incidents to families promptly. The school immediately investigated this allegation and addressed it through discipline and guidance counseling, and the Superintendent is working with the school to ensure there are no delays in reporting to families."
