NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – More than 9 million coronavirus tests have been conducted across New York state since the pandemic began, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday.

The governor said the state has done more tests per capita than "any state in the country and more than most countries on the globe."

Another 76,813 tests were done statewide on Wednesday alone, with 757 coming back positive—an infection rate of 0.98%.

The state has now gone 34 straight days with an infection rate below 1%.

There have been a total of 441,911 confirmed cases in the state since March.

There were seven deaths statewide Wednesday, including one in Rockland County. The death toll is now 25,377.

The number of people hospitalized Wednesday was 482—19 more than on Tuesday. There were 120 ICU patients, with 55 of the patients intubated.

The State Liquor Authority and State Police Task Force visited 901 establishments in New York City and Long Island on Wednesday and found one business in Manhattan that was not in compliance with state COVID requirements.

"Compliance on the bars has gone way up since we started, because enforcement works," Cuomo said. "If bars know that somebody may be checking, they're going to be more diligent, and that has been happening."

The governor also announced Thursday that riders on MTA subways, buses, Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will now face a $50 fine if they don't wear face coverings.
