ELIZABETH, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Two pit bulls were shot and killed by New Jersey police after they attacked three people on Tuesday morning, a prosecutor's spokesperson said.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office responded to a dog fighting incident on Amity Street in Elizabeth, which resulted in the owners being attacked by the dogs.
According to Lauren Farinas, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, Elizabeth police officers on the scene fired their weapons to stop the attack, which led to the dogs' deaths.
The victims were taken to Trinitas Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained while attempting to separate the dogs.
The investigation is ongoing, Farinas said.
