HOBOKEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A boil water advisory was issued Tuesday morning for Hoboken after a water main break in Jersey City raised concerns about water quality, officials announced.
The 36-inch water main break occurred at 18th Street and Jersey Avenue, causing many residents within the service area to experience significant water pressure loss or a complete water shutoff, according to the Hoboken Water Utility.
In a statement, HWU warned of a “potential or actual threat to the quality of water being provided.” As a result, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has implemented a boil water advisory until the water supply is tested and deemed safe.
Hoboken residents are instructed to boil tap water before using it for drinking, cooking, or other household purposes. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Officials assured residents that crews are working to restore water quality as soon as possible. Customers seeking more information can visit mywater.veolia.us or call Veolia customer service at 800-422-0141.
