LONG BRANCH, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A former Long Branch police officer who was arrested for running a methamphetamine lab out of his home was sentenced in prison on Friday to 10 years, authorities said.

The former cop, 50-year-old Christopher Walls, permanently surrendered his gun and firearm ID card after losing his job where he was making $128,000 a year, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Walls was arrested last year and pleaded not guilty in November to charges of causing a risk of widespread injury and manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance.
Police were called to Walls’ Long Branch home last May for a domestic disturbance where they discovered materials and chemicals used for making methamphetamine as well as meth residue in glassware in the basement and backyard shed, officials said.
Along with the meth materials, investigators also found books about making meth, explosives, poison and several firearms including four handguns, two long guns and eight high-capacity magazines and ammunition, authorities said.
The firearms were found in an unlocked safe which, according to prosecutors, was able to be accessed by a child who lived at the residence. Another person who lived in the house alerted police to the drugs, officials said.
Walls will be eligible for parole in two years.
