NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot outside a NYCHA complex in Brooklyn on Saturday night, and police are looking for the culprit.
Police responded to 32 Auburn Place in Fort Greene, part of the Whitman Houses, just before 11:45 p.m. on Saturday and found the teen with a gunshot wound to the chest.
EMS transported the victim to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and he was pronounced dead.
“There was a guy laying on the ground, another guy over him, you know, kneeling over him like he’s trying to attend to him,” Gerald, who lives in the Whitman Houses, said of the response effort.
He told 1010 WINS that he heard “a lot of gunshots, more than five.”
Richard also witnessed the attempts to help the boy, and said that “people were frantic and crying, emotional.”
“It was pumping a little kid in the back of the ambulance,” he told 1010 WINS. “Sad thing to see. It’s just really sad.”
Police have not released the identity of the victim, nor information on a potential suspect or motive. According to a report from the New York Daily News, investigators are looking for a gray Hyundai that was seen speeding from the scene.
Sonya, who lives across the street from the murder scene, told 1010 WINS that shootings in the are are becoming more common.
“All I know is they need to put these guns down,” he said. “It’s so easy for these kids to get guns online and it’s crazy.”
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
