NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Two women were slashed at an Upper West Side subway station on Friday morning, hours after two men were slashed on the same train line at a station in Harlem, police said.

The latest slashing happened around 2 a.m. on the northbound 2-line platform inside the 96th Street station at Broadway.

Police said two women, ages 22 and 23, were at the station when the 22-year-old got into an argument with a man in his 40s.

The woman pulled a knife, and the man took it from her, slashing her on the right eyebrow and left wrist, according to police.

The man also slashed the 23-year-old woman on her left ear, police said.

The man was taken into custody, according to police.

Hours earlier, two men were slashed at the Central Park North–110th Street station in Harlem shortly after 7:30 p.m., police said.

A source told 1010 WINS that the slashing suspect entered the station with a dog and a guitar case.

The man took his guitar case past the turnstile, leaving his dog behind. When he went to get his dog, he had trouble walking the animal through the turnstile and asked another straphanger to open the gate so that he could enter through it, the source said.

The first man he asked declined, while the second man opened the gate for him.

Once he was on the platform with his dog, the man got into an argument with the 35-year-old man who had declined to open the gate and slashed him in the arm, the source said.

Witnesses said the man was swinging the blade wildly. The 45-year-old man who had helped the suspect through the gate was subsequently slashed in the arm, the source said.

Both victims were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition.

The two slashings were the third and fourth in the subway in two days, according to police.

The slashings come amid a spike in subway crime. On Thursday, the NYPD said crimes in the transit system jumped 93.1% from 87 incidents in May 2020 to 168 incidents in May 2021.
