NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man accused of beating and raping woman on a Bronx street early Wednesday morning.

Gregory Williams was charged with rape, assault, sexual abuse and harassment.


At approximately 3:30 a.m., a 26-year-old woman was walking in front of 1370 Virginia Ave. in Parkchester when she was approached by the suspect from from behind, authorities said. 

According to officials, the man then repeatedly punched the woman on the right side of her body and proceeded to rape her.

The suspect was last seen fleeing southbound on Virginia Avenue and then proceeded eastbound on Mcgraw Avenue.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

An investigation by the NYPD's Bronx Special Victims Squad remains ongoing.
