4 people rescued from East River after 'gust of wind' capsized boat: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Four people were rescued from the East River on Sunday afternoon after windy weather caused their boat to capsize, police said.

At around 1:45 p.m., four people were on a boat in the East River near Hermon MacNeil Park in College Point, Queens, when officials said a “gust of wind” capsized the vessel.

A 47-year-old woman and three men ages 24, 25 and 40 were pulled out of the water by the NYPD Harbor Unit, authorities said.

The group was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia, police said.

The FDNY said the injuries sustained by the victims were non-life-threatening.
