NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- “Ain’t No Mo” extended its Broadway run by another week after celebrities stepped up and bought out entire performances of the play.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith bought tickets for an entire performance, as did Tyler Perry. Sara Ramirez, Shonda Rhimes, Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade.

Jordan E. Cooper, who wrote and stars in the play, also launched a social media campaign, #SaveAINTNOMO, encouraging fans to buy tickets.

The play was set to close Dec. 18—a little over two weeks after opening—due to poor ticket sales, but it will now run through Dec. 23. Initially, it was expected to run until March.

“Ain’t No Mo” consists of a series of sketches and asks, “What if the U.S. government attempted to solve racism by offering Black Americans one-way plane tickets to Africa?”

The play struggled with ticket sales after opening at the Belasco Theater on Dec. 1, grossing less than its weekly running costs, according to the New York Times.

Last Friday, Cooper announced on Instagram that the play was being forced to close and urged fans to buy tickets. “Now they’ve posted an eviction notice,” he wrote. “But thank God Black people are immune to eviction notices.”

In an Instagram update Thursday night, Cooper said performances had been sold out all week. He thanked fans and celebrities for pitching in.

“We are still fighting, but we're not closing this week anymore!” Cooper wrote. “Y'all are some MIGHTY MIGHTY warriors, I can't thank you enough for fighting for us.”
