NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The impact former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid left on many is being brought into the spotlight after the Nevada Democrat’s death Tuesday.

Among them is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who tweeted her personal experience with Reid.
“Sometimes, in a quiet or difficult moment, Harry Reid would reach out. It was like he knew,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “His counsel, encouragement, kindness, and generosity was so deeply moving. It was sincere. And I will never forget it.”
“Thank you, Senator Reid. Wishing peace and strength to his family,” she concluded.
Reid and Ocasio-Cortez’s relationship came about even though they were never in Congress at the same time. Reid retired in 2017, while AOC took office in New York’s 14th congressional district in 2019.
Reid was the Senate Majority leader for eight years and then Senate Minority Leader for two more before that role went to Sen. Chuck Schumer. He died of pancreatic cancer at 82 Tuesday.
Other high-profile politicians like Schumer, former President Barack Obama and current Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeted tributes to Reid Tuesday as well.
