
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – Actor and stuntwoman Carrie Bernans, who appeared in films like "Black Panther" film and "The Color Purple" musical, was among the eight people struck and injured Monday by a driver fleeing police in Midtown Manhattan, her family said.
Bernans, 29, was at the Chirp restaurant at West 34th Street and Ninth Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. Monday when a driver fleeing cops crashed into the outdoor area, according to PEOPLE. She has several broken bones but is stable in the hospital. Her child was not with her during the crash.
Patricia Lee, Bernans’ mother, posted photos on Instagram showing Bernans' injuries.
“She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time, but appreciate the messages," Lee wrote in the Instagram caption, "This was a traumatic incident. Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers. She’s in so much pain but healing.”
According to police, an unidentified 44-year-old driver who was involved in a dispute with people on West 34th Street sped off as an NYPD officer tried to intervene. He went the wrong way and drove onto a sidewalk, hitting multiple people.
Among the other injured was a 39-year-old woman who got trapped under a food truck. Six other people who were hit were also taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Hospital and are in stable condition.
One officer was taken to NYU Langone Health for minor injuries.
None of the injuries appeared life-threatening, according to cops.
Charges are pending against him.
An investigation is ongoing.
