NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 4-year-old boy with autism died after he went missing at a Staten Island beach and was later found in the water on Tuesday night, authorities said.
Police and sources told the New York Post that the boy's mother reported him missing during a family gathering at Midland Beach around 9:30 p.m.
A search was launched for the boy, who was found about 15 feet offshore in the area near Lincoln Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard, according to the report.
Citizen App video shows emergency responders returning from the beach during the search.
The boy was pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital.
Sources told the Post that the child's death wasn't immediately considered suspicious.
The boy's death came about two weeks after a 9-year-old girl died after she was pulled from Silver Lake Reservoir on Staten Island.
