
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A double shooting in Brooklyn on Saturday night resulted in one man’s death while another was injured, the NYPD said.
Police responded to 101 Osborne St., near Pitkin Avenue and steps from NYCHA’s Howard Houses in Brownsville, after receiving reports of two people shot at about 11 p.m.
A 30-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, and a 28-year-old man was shot in the hand, officials said.
The victims were transported by medical personnel to Brookdale University Medical Center.
The older victim was pronounced dead by hospital staff, and the 28-year-old was listed in stable condition.
Police identified the 30-year-old victim as Russell Lamont, a Brooklyn man who lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Homicide rates in the 73rd Precinct, which contains Brownsville and Ocean Hill, has increased by almost 267% year-to-date, according to the latest NYPD data. Through May 12 this year there were 11 murders in the precinct, compared to 3 during the same period in 2023.
This contrasts with the 15% drop in murders citywide over the same timeframe.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
