NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 61-year-old bystander was fatally shot in the head as she stepped outside her apartment building in Harlem on Tuesday night, police said.

The victim, identified as Excenia Mette, walked outside her building at West 113th Street and Lenox Avenue around 10:20 p.m. and was struck in the head by a stray bullet, according to police.

There was a dispute between two groups of people on the street at the time, and police believe Mette may have stepped out to see what was happening when the gunfire erupted.

She was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Morningside.

A 23-year-old man was also shot in the left foot. He was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

Police described the man as a person of interest in the shooting, though he hasn't been arrested and it's unclear who fired the fatal shot. The investigation is ongoing.
