NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A cab driver of 24 years is hospitalized after being beaten by a man during a pick-up in the Bronx on Thursday, police and union officials said.

The 61-year-old victim, Carlos Infante, was picking up a couple on Webster Avenue just before 6 a.m. The couple was allegedly arguing when he arrived, according to Fernando Mateo, spokesperson for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, and the woman got into his vehicle.
Infante allegedly asked her to get out of the car at which point the male suspect became angry and punched Infante in the face and right eye, knocking him unconscious, police and Mateo said.
The victim’s family also said that Infante was robbed of $600, according to Mateo, but the police have not officially confirmed the robbery.
Infante called 911 and drove himself to Bronx Lebanon Hospital after regaining consciousness, Mateo said.

“Mr. Infante may never see from his right eye again, this beat down was unnecessary since they robbed him anyway,” said Antonio Cabrera, President of the NYSFTD. “Our City needs peace, we need to unite and stop the violence, we are here to serve our community.”
As of Monday, Infante remains hospitalized, awaiting swelling in his face to go down to receive surgery, Mateo said.
A reward is being offered by the NYSFTD for information about the incident.
“The NYSFTD is offering $3,000.00 to anyone with information about this case,” Mateo said. “We need to get these dangerous criminals off the streets. Infante could have been killed, we must take our streets back.”
