NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A pair of men attacked controversial City Council candidate Harold "Heshy" Tischler in Brooklyn on Wednesday, the NYPD said.

Tischler was with another person at 43rd Street and 17th Avenue in Borough Park around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday when the two men walked up and started yelling at them, police said.

Not long after, one of the men punched Tischler in the face, the NYPD said. Both men fled the scene in a sedan after the attack, police said.

Tischler, who suffered minor injuries to his face, refused medical attention at the scene, according to police.

In an interview, the City Council candidate said he didn't try to fight back.

"I knew that if I hit back I could be arrested," he said. "I blocked him but he got two shots into my head."

Tischler in October was arrested and charged with inciting a riot during a protest against COVID-19 shutdown zones in which demonstrators attacked journalist Jacob Kornbluh. He pleaded guilty to the charges last month.

At another demonstration protesting COVID-19-related orders, he was caught on video calling Mayor Bill de Blasio's wife, First Lady Chirlane McCray, a "retard woman" and a "kurva," the Yiddish word for "whore."

The men who attacked Tischler hadn't been arrested as of Thursday morning, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
