NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Delta flight from JFK Airport headed to Atlanta was diverted Wednesday morning after a "smoky odor" was detected on the plane.

Flight 2286 was diverted to Charlotte Douglas International Airport - the nearest suitable diversion point - after people noticed the smell of smoke, sources tell 1010 WINS.

The plane landed safely at 7:50 a.m. and the 112 customers, two pilots and six flight attendants aboard were uninjured.

"The safety of our customers and people comes before everything else at Delta. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels," Delta said in a statement.

Technicians are examining the Boeing 757-200 aircraft as Delta team members work to reaccommodate passengers to their final destinations.
