NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is investigating after an e-bike rider was fatally struck by a dump tuck Wednesday morning in the Bronx, authorities said.
At approximately 5:40 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Tiffany and Barry streets in Hunts Point, officials said.
Further investigation conducted by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2022 Kenworth Dump Truck was traveling southbound on Tiffany Street approaching the intersection of Barry Street while a bicyclist on an e-Bike was also traveling southbound, in the bike lane, on Tiffany Street.
The biker, 30-year-old Mariano Leonardo Victoriano was riding along the passenger side of truck when it made a right turn onto Barry Street striking the bicyclist and knocking him to the ground, officials said.
Subsequently, the tires of the truck ran over the bicyclist and the truck continued westbound on Barry Street without stopping.
EMS transported the bicyclist to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln where he was later pronounced dead.
A short time after the collision, truck driver was identified.
There have been no arrests and the incident is under investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
