The 51-year-old victim was standing near an emergency exit at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station shortly before 10:30 p.m. when he got into a dispute with a man who didn’t pay the fare.

The argument escalated and the man punched the worker in the face, police said.

The assailant then grabbed the worker’s metal dustpan and struck him in the left shoulder with it, knocking the worker to the ground.

The worker was not hospitalized, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.

The NYPD was still searching Monday for the suspect, who fled the station with a bike.

Last week, the NYPD said transit crime had increased 106% in November of this year compared to November 2020.
