NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fire tore through an e-bike shop in Queens on Thursday morning, the FDNY said.

The FDNY received a call at 1:50 a.m. about a fire at the shop at Gates and Cypress avenues in Ridgewood.

No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control around 2:45 a.m.

The FDNY fire marshal was investigating the cause of the fire.

A hazmat crew was also at the scene evaluating lithium-ion batteries that were involved in the fire.

While the cause of the fire isn't yet known, fires linked to lithium-ion batteries have vexed the FDNY in recent years. In 2023, four people were killed when a fire erupted at an e-bike repair shop below their Chinatown apartments.

The number of lithium-ion battery fires in the city spiked slightly in 2024, increasing to 277, from 268 in 2023.

The department has ramped up safety messaging, inspections and community outreach in an effort to curb the fires.
