NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man working at a Hudson Yards construction site died on Thursday morning after falling over 100 feet from a building into a construction hole.
The worker was discovered at the bottom of a 60-foot construction hole near 12th Avenue and 30th Street—a site of the Hudson Tunnel Project, part of the larger Gateway Project—just before 9 a.m., the FDNY said. It appears he fell into the hole from at least 50 feet up the building.
Fire officials said the man was removed from the hole via a stokes basket, and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to a statement from The Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak, and Related Companies, the worker did not survive his injuries.
“The Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak, and Related Companies extend our profound condolences to the family of the worker who suffered a fatal injury on the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project today,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”
The statement confirmed the worker was an employee of New York Concrete Corporation.
All work is suspended on the site while the incident is investigated, the corporations said.
