NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two girls were wounded in a shooting at a Brooklyn playground Monday night, police said—just the latest act of gun violence involving kids in the city.
The two girls—cousins, ages 11 and 9—were shot just after 9 p.m. at Hilltop Playground on Dean Street in Brownsville.
The girls were inside the park when two gunmen fired six shots and sent children running for their lives, police said.
The 11-year-old was shot in the back and the 9-year-old was shot in the leg.

A family member of the girls witnessed them being shot, said NYPD Deputy Chief John Mastronardi, of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North.
"The mother of the 11-year-old was watching from the park bench as the children were playing in the middle of the field," Mastronardi said.
She rushed them to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where they remained hospitalized in stable condition Tuesday.
"Both young girls are conscious, alert and are being treated by the incredible medical staff at Brookdale Hospital," said NYPD Assistant Chief Scott Henderson, of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North.
The girls were not the intended targets, and the shooting may have been gang-related, according to police.
"Our detectives will be working diligently to apprehend the individuals responsible for this horrendous act of violence," Henderson said.
The shooting comes just a day after Brownsville was shaken by deadly gun violence involving kids. On Sunday morning, a 12-year-old boy allegedly shot his 14-year-old cousin as they played with a gun at an apartment.
The younger boy was charged Monday with multiple crimes, including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and criminal possession of a weapon.
