NEW YORK (BLOOMBERG) -- Governor Kathy Hochul said that the US government has “backed down” after freezing federal money for the Second Avenue subway extension.
“We took the Trump Administration to court after they illegally froze funding for the Second Avenue Subway,” Hochul said in a post Thursday on X. “Today, they backed down. The freeze is over.”
She added that the administration should “release our money immediately.”
New York City’s transit system sued the Trump administration in March to unpause the funds tied to a $7 billion project that would extend the Second Avenue subway to Harlem.
Funds for the project had been on hold since October as the US Department of Transportation reviews whether the project meets a federal rule that prohibits contracting requirements based on race or gender.
