NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Candidates Kathryn Garcia and Maya Wiley conceded on Wednesday to Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor.

“Yesterday, we received the nearly final result of the Democratic primary election for mayor. And while it is only by a razor-thin margin, Eric Adams will be the winner of the Democratic primary,” Garcia said at a news conference in Central Park. “I spoke to Eric earlier today and congratulated him.”

Adams was leading the race with 403,333 votes (50.5%) compared to Garcia’s 394,907 (49.5%) after the latest round of votes in the ranked-choice voting contest.

Wiley, who was eliminated in the latest round, also conceded on Wednesday.

"I stand here today, one, to congratulate Eric Adams on his victory in this mayor's race," Wiley said at a news conference. "And let's be clear, this is only the second time a Black New Yorker has been elected mayor of this city. And that has tremendous meaning for so many New Yorkers, particularly Black people."

The Associated Press on Tuesday declared Adams as the projected winner of the Democratic primary, though the results have not yet been certified.

Adams is set to face Republican Curtis Sliwa in the general election in November.
