NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Staffers at the Brooklyn federal jail where Jeffrey Epstein confidant Ghislaine Maxwell is being held wake her up every 15 minutes by shining a flashlight on her to make sure she does not kill herself, according to a report.
Maxwell is "overmanaged under conditions more restrictive than inmates housed in" the Metropolitan Detention Center's "most restrictive unit," her lawyers wrote in a letter addressed to U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan, the New York Post reported.
Those restrictions include the flashlight checks, which are conducted to ensure the British socialite does not try to harm herself, the outlet reported. Epstein died by suicide inside a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 after he was charged with sex trafficking.
Maxwell, who is currently quarantining after a jail staffer tested positive for COVID-19, has pleaded not guilty to charges that she groomed underage girls for Epstein to sexually abuse.
Her trial is set to take place next July.
