NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has a 19-point lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the NYC mayoral race, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The poll by Siena College surveyed registered voters in NYC as part of a larger statewide poll last week, finding Mamdani continues to hold a commanding lead after winning the Democratic primary in late June in a 12-point upset over Cuomo.
According to the poll, 44% of respondents said they support Mamdani, compared to 25% who support Cuomo and 12% who support the Republican candidate, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa. Mayor Eric Adams came in fourth place with 7%. Both Cuomo and Adams are running as independents.
Registered Democrats had an even more favorable view of Mamdani, with 53% supporting him to Cuomo’s 32%.
More than two-thirds of registered Republicans support Sliwa.
Independents were divided, with 30% supporting Mamdani and 20% supporting Adams, the poll found.
The poll shows views of the candidates vary significantly between NYC voters and voters overall in the state, with NYC voters viewing Mamdani the best and statewide voters viewing Sliwa the best.
Mamdani has a 46-32% favorability rating with NYC voters and a 28-37% favorability rating among voters statewide, according to the poll.
Cuomo has a 37-54% favorability rating with NYC voters and a 29-61% favorability rating statewide.
Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said that’s “the worst ever favorability rating for Cuomo in a Siena poll.”
Adams has a 30-58% favorability rating with NYC voters and a 22-51% favorability statewide, while Sliwa has a 30-42% favorability rating with NYC voters and a 26-30% favorability statewide.
The poll was conducted Aug. 4 to Aug. 7 among 813 NYS registered voters. It has an overall margin of error of +/- 4.2 percentage points.
