NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with fatally shooting his father in the Bronx earlier this month, according to police and a report.
Rameek Simmons was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with Robert Forrest's death, the NYPD said Monday.
Simmons, who was staying at the 30th Street Men's Shelter in Kips Bay before he was arrested, was Forrest's son, according to the department and a Daily News report.
Police responding to a 911 call around 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 14 found Forrest, 46, lying on the floor inside his apartment on Carpenter Avenue, in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, with a gunshot wound to his head, the NYPD said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A day after the NYPD released surveillance photos of the suspect wanted in connection with Forrest's death, Simmons walked into a precinct in Washington Heights, said he was the person in the photos and requested an attorney, the Daily News reported.
His attorney information wasn't immediately available Monday.
