NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man crossing the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on foot died after being hit by an SUV Thursday night, authorities said.

At approximately 11 p.m., police found the pedestrian lying on the roadway near exit 40 in Woodside, Queens. EMS took the man, 33, to a hospital in Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead from head and body trauma.

The NYPD Highway District discovered that the pedestrian was struck by a 2005 Ford Explorer driving in the westbound BQE's center lane. The vehicle's driver, a 55-year-old man, remained at the scene.

The driver suffered no injuries in the collision, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
