NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 27-year-old man was slashed across his hand on a Manhattan A train on Friday night, and police are searching for the boxcutter-wielding perpetrator.

Police said that the victim got on a northbound A train at the 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station and was onboard when the slashing occurred around 11 p.m.

There was a verbal dispute between the victim and the suspect, which prompted the assailant to pull out a boxcutter.

The 27-year-old threw his hands up to block the attack, and was cut across his left hand, police said.

According to police, the two men are strangers and the cause of the dispute is unclear.

The victim exited the train at 34th Street/Penn Station and alerted police of the assault. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.

Officials described the suspect as a man in his 20s or 30s.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

The slashing occurred hours after a man was stabbed in the abdomen on a 4 train in the Bronx, and days after a subway conductor was slashed across the neck at a Brooklyn subway station.

According to the most recent CompStat data, last updated on Feb. 25, there has been a 13.2% increase in transit crime citywide year-to-date.
