NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was indicted Wednesday for slashing a man and stomping on his head more than 20 times in an attack at a Midtown subway station in December that left the victim with broken bones and a traumatic brain injury, prosecutors said.
Orsen Reyes, 23, faces a charge of attempted murder, as well as multiple counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon following the Dec. 30 attack at the 50th Street A/C/E station, which Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg called “brutal.”
“New Yorkers deserve to be safe in our subway system, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to combat transit crime. I hope the victim continues to heal from this horrifying assault,” Bragg said.
During the 1:15 a.m. attack, which police have previously said involved some sort of dispute between the two men on the northbound C platform, Reyes stomped on the head of the 48-year-old victim more than 20 times and slashed him multiple times in the face and neck, according to prosecutors.
He also allegedly grabbed the victim’s foot and attempted to pull him towards the tracks.
A passerby called 911 after seeing the injured man in the station.
Reyes was arrested minutes later at the 59th Street–Columbus Circle station, where he was found covered in blood and in possession of a knife and two screwdrivers, prosecutors said.
The victim was hospitalized for a week at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he received treatment for a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures and lacerations.
