Man takes electronics, rent checks, packages in Queens burglary spree: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are trying to track down a man behind a string of Queens burglaries that resulted in thousands in belongings, packages and rent checks being taken.

The incidents took place between Nov. 6 and Dec. 12, with a total of five separate crimes committed over the period just a few blocks apart in Flushing.


The first incident on Nov. 6 happened at about 1:30 a.m., when a man entered an apartment belonging to a 76-year-old woman near Kissena Boulevard and Sanford Avenue. The suspect grabbed an iPhone, iPad and other electronics worth a combined $2,100.

Then on Nov. 19 just before 5:30 a.m., the man grabbed a package in a 36-year-old woman's mailbox located near Franklin Avenue and Colden Street, according to police. Cops said it was possible that he had a USPS master key to open the boxes. The package contained a sweatshirt worth $26.

The next incident took place on Nov. 21 at 3:15 a.m., police said, when the man entered a building near Colden and Main streets by "manipulating" the keyhole and prying open a drop box that contained rent money holding an undetermined amount of cash.

Then on Dec. 8 just after 6 p.m., the man entered a building near Robinson Street and Holly Avenue and took a 20-year-old woman's electric scooter that was locked to a staircase, cops said. The scooter was worth $600.

The most recent crime was committed on Dec. 12 at 3:20 a.m., when the man entered a building near Colden Street and Franklin Avenue and took packages and letters from the lobby, holding an unknown monetary value, police said.

The NYPD release video and photos of the suspect, described as a man with a light complexion, about 30 years old, 5'6" and 150 pounds.
