NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man's head and other body parts were found in a freezer sealed with tape at a Brooklyn apartment, police said Wednesday, and though a woman was taken into custody, she hasn't been charged in the case.
The gruesome discovery was first reported Monday, but new details have emerged as the investigation continues.
On Wednesday morning, crime scene teams were spotted removing three large, brown evidence bags from the building at 2069 Nostrand Ave. in East Flatbush.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Tuesday that a Crime Stoppers tip about a possible body led officers to the fourth-floor apartment around 7 p.m. Monday.
During the visit, cops came across the taped-shut freezer with the remains sealed inside.
The medical examiner is working to determine how the man died as police investigate who he is and why his remains were chopped up and put in a freezer.
The woman, who was initially taken into custody on an unrelated warrant, has not been charged in the case, police said.
Neighbors said she's in her 40s, and they gave her name as Heather.
One horrified neighbor told WABC-TV, "That's something you see in Colorado or Wyoming, not here in Brooklyn."
And it's not the only grisly find in the city in recent days. On Saturday, a decomposing body, believed to be that of a woman, was found in a trash bin at a fifth-floor apartment on East 179th Street in Crotona. Sources told the Daily News that a man who may have been a boyfriend was taken into custody but hasn't been charged.
