NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading to New York City next week to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are headed to the assembly in honor of Nelson Mandela Day on July 18 where Prince Harry is expected to serve as a keynote speaker.
Serving as a day for global humanitarian action, Nelson Mandela Day was first recognized in 2009.
After meeting Mandela’s widow, Graça Machel, in South Africa in 2019, the ex-royal couple have been vocal about honoring the civil rights activist.
Last year, the Duke and Duchess visited the UN for the World Leaders Meeting and Markle previously served as the keynote speaker at the UN women’s conference in 2015 on International Women’s Day.
The upcoming visit marks the first high-profile trip the couple, who are based in California, are embarking on since resigning from their royal duties in 2020, aside from a quick trip to London to honor the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
