NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A group of men attacked two NYPD officers who told them to stop smoking and put out their cigarettes at a subway station in the Bronx this week, police said Wednesday as they searched for one suspect following the arrest of two others.
The uniformed officers were patrolling the Freeman Street station in East Morrisania on Monday afternoon when they saw the three men enter the station with lit cigarettes.
The cops told them to put out their cigarettes, but they refused, according to police.
When the officers tried to forcibly remove them from the station, they started to physically fight them, police said. Video shows men pummeling officers at the elevated station before arrests are made.
The cops managed to get two suspects into custody at the station, but a third remained at large Wednesday.
The officers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
