Mother found dead in box in Brooklyn home, son charged with murder

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police found the body of a woman, 67, in a box inside her Flatbush apartment on Friday afternoon after allegedly being murdered by her son, the NYPD said.

Officials responded to a 911 call at 12:17 p.m. on Friday and discovered the victim’s body in the box, unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

She had suffered trauma to the face and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, officials said.

Police identified the victim as Shirley Awer, and she lived in her Linden Blvd. apartment with her son.

Awer's son, David Drummond, 30, was taken into custody and charged with murder, according to the NYPD.

The investigation is ongoing and the medical examiner will determine cause of death.
