NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A new podcast that will be airing exclusively on Audacy will dive into one of the biggest corruption scandals in the NYPD’s history.
“The Set” will tell the story of Harlem’s 30th Precinct in the early 1990s — a precinct where 33 officers were arrested on corruption charges after an investigation revealed cops were stealing and selling drugs and guns.
Despite knowledge of the crime ring being run out of the precinct, the NYPD turned a blind eye.
New wiretap audio and exclusive interviews with corrupt cops, whistleblowers, investigators, prosecutors and even the former police commissioner shed new light on the scandal and the behind-the-scenes turf war that shook the department.
“This is a historical documentary that examines what it was to be a cop in New York City during the crack era,” Zak Levitt, the award-winning writer, director and narrator of the series, told Newsline With Brigitte Quinn.
“In today’s world, where policing at every level is under more scrutiny than ever, this story illustrates what can happen when our nation’s largest police department fails to police itself,” Levitt said.
All ten episodes of “The Set" were released exclusively on Audacy Wednesday. Listen on Audacy or on Apple Podcasts.
Levitt and former 30th Precinct cop and whistleblower Barry Brown spoke with Quinn and 1010 WINS reporter Carol D'Auria. Listen to the interviews above.
