Structures taking part in the memorial include One World Trade Center, Grand Central Terminal and the Kosciusko Bridge in New York City, with others across the state also involved.

Hochul also officially declared Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, as Firefighter Appreciation Day and the week of Oct. 3 to 9, 2021, as Fire Prevention Week.

The measures were announced during an event at Empire State Plaza Tuesday, where 24 names of firefighters who died on duty were added to the state’s Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Those added include a dozen of FDNY members as well as others from across the state. More information on the firefighters honored Tuesday is available online.

"The names engraved on the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial will forever be remembered for self-sacrifice and dedication to community," Hochul said in a statement. "New York is a better place because of their service, and I offer my sincerest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who are no longer with us. We will never forget."
