Queens man accused of sexually assaulting girls was counselor for Police Athletic League: sources

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Queens man who’s been accused of sexually assaulting two girls had worked at the city’s Police Athletic League when the alleged abuse occurred, sources told 1010 WINS on Wednesday.

Aaron Gafur, 27, was arrested by the Special Victims Unit in the 113th precinct on July 14 and charged with two counts each of sexual conduct against a child and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

He’s accused of sexually assaulting the girls multiple times from 2017 through 2018, when they were 14 and 13 years old, police said.

According to sources, he worked as a counselor with the Police Athletic League at the time of the alleged abuse.

The Police Athletic League is a nonprofit youth development organization that works with the NYPD and other law enforcement to support young people.

1010 WINS has reached out to the Police Athletic League.

The Queens District Attorney's Office had no comment on the case.
