NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat has tested positive for the coronavirus, the congressman from New York announced on Thursday.
"I am following guidance from my physician and quarantining at home after having tested positive for COVID-19," Espaillat tweeted.
Espaillat, 66, said he received his second dose of the COVID vaccine last week but that "the affects take time." He said he's been tested regularly, worn a mask and followed recommended guidelines.
"I will continue my duties representing New York's 13th congressional district remotely until I have received clearance from my doctor," he wrote.
Espaillat is a Democrat who represents parts of upper Manhattan and the Bronx.
He joined Mayor Bill de Blasio and other representatives at the steps of City Hall last weekend to call for President Donald Trump's impeachment after the Capitol siege.
Espaillat was at the U.S. Capitol during last week's siege. Several members of Congress have since tested positive for the virus after being exposed while in protective isolation in the Capitol building.
It is not clear when Espaillat may have contracted the virus.
