NYC Pride March kicks off on Fifth Ave, Planned Parenthood 1st marcher

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The first in-person NYC Pride march since 2019 is kicked off Sunday with Planned Parenthood leading the way.

Now in its 52nd year, thousands of attendees are already lining the streets of Lower Manhattan to celebrate the culmination of Pride Month.

The march will start at noon on Fifth Avenue and 25th Street, making its way west on 8th Street and ending on Seventh Avenue and 15th Street.

This year, the march comes just days after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1970s abortion precedent case. On Saturday, NYC Pride announced Planned Parenthood will be the first contingent to march in the parade.

"As millions gather for LGBTQIA+ Pride this weekend in New York City and cities across the country, our voices will be heard -- for the LGBTQ people impacted and the millions with whom we stand in solidarity," Heritage of Pride, the organization behind the official NYC Pride roster of events, said in the statement. "Join us as we advocate for bodily autonomy at this year's NYC Pride March."

The Grand Marshals this year will be activist TS Madison, “Saturday Night Live” star Punkie Johnson, NCAA swimmer Schuyler Bailar, activist Dominique Morgan, and lawyer Chase Strangio.

Those who cannot make it in-person will be able to watch it on ABC 7.
