
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An off-duty NYPD officer working security at a Midtown Duane Reade was punched in the face while attempting to stop a shoplifter from stealing beer on Sunday morning.

The cop was keeping watch of the store on Broadway, between West 35th Street and West 36th Street, at around 7:20 a.m. when she was alerted that a man was attempting to leave the store without paying for beer.
When she confronted him, he punched her in the face and fled.
She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital and treated for scratches on her face, police said.
The suspect is described as 5'8" with a beard and was last seen wearing a brown coat, gray pants and black and white sneakers.
