NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A woman sprayed an on-duty MTA employee in the face for waking her on a Bronx subway train early Monday morning, police said.

The worker, 53, was attacked while cleaning at the elevated Van Cortlandt Park–242nd Street station in the Kingsbridge section.


The victim woke up the sleeping woman on a 1 train shortly before 4 a.m. to ask her to leave the train car so she could clean it.

The woman responded by spraying her in the face with an unknown substance, police said.

The worker was transported to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where she was in stable condition.

The suspect—who was wearing and a black mask and is believed to be in her 30s—fled the train and remained at large Monday.

Just last Monday, another MTA worker, 36, was punched in the face by a man she woke up while cleaning a train car at the 179th Street-Hillside Avenue station in Jamaica, Queens. The suspect, 63, was arrested, while the worker was hospitalized with minor injuries.
