NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police responding to a dog fight in the Bronx on Saturday fatally shot a Pitbull, officials said.
At 4:13 p.m. officers responded to a report of a “vicious dog attacking people” at 470 East 161 Street in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
There were two dogs involved in the incident, and a Pitbull was attacking a smaller dog and that dog’s owner, police said.
When officers arrived, they fatally shot the Pitbull.
The New York Post reported that the dog had “charged” at officers.
An officer was removed to an area hospital for evaluation. The nature of the visit was not immediately clear, police said.
Authorities said that none of the humans involved were injured.
The incident is being investigated by the NYPD Force Investigation Division.
