NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police arrested a Long Island man on Friday morning who they believe punched and pushed a woman onto the tracks at a Brooklyn subway station on Thursday morning after she didn't give him a lighter.

Shadrach Ford, 30, of Uniondale, is charged with second-degree attempted murder, attempted criminally negligent homicide, three counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of harassment and criminal trespass in relation to the incident.

The incident happened at about 6 a.m. on Thursday as the 62-year-old victim stood on the northbound L platform at the Jefferson Street station in Bushwick. She was allegedly approached by Ford, who asked for “a light” but she declined, according to police and sources.

He then is accused of punching her in the face and shoving her onto the tracks before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

No train was coming at the time, and bystanders helped pull the woman back onto the platform, sources said.

She suffered injuries to her left ankle and right elbow from the fall off the platform. She was transported in stable condition to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.

The NYPD released images of a suspect on Thursday evening to help in the investigation, and Ford was arrested not even 16 hours later in southern Brooklyn.

The attack occurred the same day that a 32-year-old woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for shoving another woman into the path of an oncoming train at the Times Square subway station in 2021..
