NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 77-year-old substitute teacher was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly choking a student in a dispute at a Queens intermediate school.
Vernon Jerom, a New York City Department of Education employee, is accused of placing his hand around the boy's neck for about five seconds, police told Fox 5.
Jerom is charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
The student, whose age and grade level are unclear, said that he was not physically injured and was not taken for medical attention.
The NYPD did not provide the name of the school due to privacy concerns, although it is reportedly located in the Flushing area.
