NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a group of suspected teenagers who have been breaking into high schools across the Bronx to steal calculators.
The first break-in took place on Feb. 6 around 2:24 a.m. when two people broke into NYC Charter High School For Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industries on Brooke Avenue near East 159th Street. The thieves climbed a fire escape to break in and stole about $6,900 worth of calculators.
On Feb. 19 around 2:37 a.m., four people broke into Bronx Regional High School on Stebbins Avenue near Jennings Street and stole calculators worth about $1,465 total.
Feb. 24 around 1:30 a.m., one person broke into Morris High School on Boston Road near East 166th Street by forcing a window in a locker room. It’s unclear what items were stolen.
The next day around 1:44 a.m., two people hit the same school. They smashed several door windows to access locked rooms but didn’t take anything.
On March 1 around 1:20 a.m., two people broke into Mott Haven Village High School on St. Ann’s Avenue near Rae Street by smashing a side door window. The duo stole about $13,920 worth of calculators.
Also on March 1 around 11:30 p.m., two people returned to the school and took more calculators worth about $14,200.
Just after midnight on March 5, three people tried to break into South Bronx Community Charter High School on Washington Avenue near East 166th Street by climbing over a security gate and damaging a side door.
They were unable to get inside, but they caused about $300 worth of damage to the door.
Later that morning around 4:36 a.m., three people broke into Morris High School again through a cafeteria window. They ransacked a few different locked rooms, but ultimately left empty handed. The property damage was estimated at over $15,000.
On March 7 just before 3 a.m., two people broke into Legacy College Preparatory High School on Cauldwell Avenue near East 158th Street and stole about $6,000 worth of calculators.
Officials believe the perpetrators are between the ages of 15 and 18.
