A video of the incident circulating online shows first-responders running with a person on a white stretcher to an ambulance as firefighters climb up into the burning house where smoke is coming out the building's windows.

An off-duty firefighter, Stefon Douglas of Engine Company 276, who lives on the same block, rushed to the scene and ran to save the victims, doing his best to pull the mother and child from the fire.

"I had just got off work, pulled on my block and [saw] the fire happening," Douglas told AMNY. "I had a SCBA in my truck from a career day I did last week. I put it on, tried to go in the front of the house but was unable to due to the heat."

The responders issued an "all-hands" alert and were able to control the blaze by 6:37 p.m., according to the department.

The toddler and her mother were rescued and were brought to Staten Island University Hospital North in critical condition according to AMNY. A firefighter also had minor injuries and was taken to Downstate University Hospital.

A family friend told AMNY that the mother was cooking dinner for the family when the fire started. The FDNY Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
