NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – PATH trains were up and running again Monday after a fire on a train earlier in the morning injured 13 people and snarled service into Manhattan.
The fire broke out shortly after 6:15 a.m. on an eastbound train at the Newport PATH station in Jersey City, sources told 1010 WINS.
A roughly 30-second video posted to social media showed thick smoke on a PATH train car at the Newport station. People can be heard on the video saying “open the door,” and “easy, easy,” as they eventually disembark. The video then shows bright orange flames rising nearly to the top of the train car from the rails.
The train filled with smoke, and passengers were evacuated onto the platform.
A total of 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation; nine of them were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

The Jersey City Fire Department was at the scene, along with PATH officials, as the cause of the fire is investigated.
The fire led to suspensions on the Hoboken-WTC and JSQ-33rd Street lines. Service was restored shortly before 11 a.m.
