NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 74-year-old woman was found bound and killed in her Upper West Side apartment this week, police said Friday as the investigation into her slaying continues.
The chilling discovery was made Wednesday night as NYPD officers responded to a 911 call just before 10 p.m. at her third-floor apartment on W. 83rd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues, about a block from Central Park.
The victim, identified as Maria Hernandez, was found unresponsive with both her hands and her feet tied, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
She had no obvious signs of trauma to her body, according to police.

Her death has been classified as a homicide, and the medical examiner is working to determine what killed her.
The victim’s sister, Maria Terrero, told 1010 WINS on Friday that she is in disbelief that her sibling is gone.
“She was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful lady,” Terrero said. “I don’t have no idea—I think I live in very bad dream right now.”
Terrero lives on the first floor of the building and discovered her sister’s body bound and covered in clothing.
“And I find her in the bedroom, she was on the floor, most of the body covered with all this stuff,” Terrero said. “I almost can’t see her.”
With no arrests reported, Terrero said she hopes police will find her sister’s killer soon.
“It’s terrible, it’s traumatizing, it’s unbelievable,” she said.
This wasn’t the first crime reported in the building in recent years. In 2019, there was a push-in robbery in a first-floor apartment. A resident was injured as he fought the robbers off.
